Why should you use cleansing oils?

Why use cleansing oils at all? Isn’t a foaming cleanser enough? How do you feel about this topic?

I asked you on Instagram the other day if you use cleansing oils or not? A full 86% of you said YES, but 14% answered “Why?”. That’s why I decided to write a post about exactly that, Korean cleansing oils. I’m also gonna talk about the so-called double cleansing process and why cleansing oils are a must, even if you use other types of cleansing products.

Personally, I use both a cleansing oil and a foam cleanser every single night. This is what’s called the “double cleansing” routine, and it’s typical in Korea. If I wear heavy makeup, an additional eye makeup remover might be needed for the eye area. The first thing I noticed when I started to double cleanse was that the skin was really thoroughly cleansed in a new way. I no longer needed a toner to remove the last bits of residue. The skin was already clean. I still use toners, but for skin toning benefits, not for cleansing. Nowadays, I would never dream of going to bed without a proper cleansing routine, especially after wearing makeup.

Why use cleansing oils?

There are different types of dirt and impurities actually. The rule is that water-based dirt is removed with a water-based cleanser. And oil-based dirt is removed with an oil-based cleanser, for example a cleansing oil. Mascara, SPF and waterproof eye liners often require an oil-based cleanser, as does most foundations and BB creams. The oil also removes excess oils from the skin strangely enough. Sweat on the other hand, is considered water-based dirt. Your foaming water-based cleanser can also be working for your benefit by targeting your skin type, preventing acne or maintaining a healthy PH balance in the skin. In short, to remove ALL dirt and prevent clogged pores, you do need both a cleansing oil followed by a foam cleanser. You can also think that if you apply creams, spf and makeup in several layers, then several steps are needed to remove everything. Sounds reasonable, right?

If you are a wet-wipe type gal who skips proper cleansing, then my tip is to give double cleansing an honest chance. You will see great results in your skin for sure.

If you haven’t tried a Korean cleansing oil before, then here are some tips on a couple of well-chosen awesome products. Korean cleansing oils are very nice and affordable costing around8-15 / pc. They are gentle and doesn’t irritate the skin or the eyes. And they melt away makeup and impurities without the need to rub a whole lot. Banila Co came up with this groundbreaking cleansing balm in solid form some years ago, and other brands have followed since. It’s a matter of taste really going for a solid or a liquid cleansing oil. Here are a few tips of good quality Korean oil-based cleansers, which I highly recommend!
