Top best Korean skin care products treating hyperpigmentation & dark spots

A reader asked me about good quality Korean skin care treating hyperpigmentation & dark spots. Here’s my post sharing some very good and very popular Korean products treating this skin concern.

I can’t find the name of the person who asked me about hyperpigmentation, but if you read this, please write to me so I can give you credit. Well, summer is here and with the sun you easily get increased pigmentation and dark spots (hyperpigmentation). Protect yourself from the sun, which is the number one biggest cause to premature aging, age spots, hyperpigmentation and dark spots. You can also get hyperpigmentation by hormonal imbalance or during pregnancy. Here are my best tips on great and very popular Korean skin care products treating hyperpigmentation, age spots and dark spots.

Korean skin care products treating hyperpigmentation, dark spots, age spots and blemishes are often referred to as “brightening” or “whitening”. It doesn’t mean that you will look like a white ghost or ruin your skin. Whitening in Korea I feel, means new luster and a more even skin tone. So this is not about bleaching your skin with strong corrosive bleaching agents, as many think. These skin care products are gentle and work like any other product. Most of these products also work well treating wrinkles, lines, acne and acne scars. Here are my best tips on good quality Korean skin care treating hyperpigmentation and dark spots.

Vitamin C serum

Korean vitamin C serums are exfoliating and therefore contributes to a more even skin tone and reduced hyperpigmentation. Vitamin C serums also heals acne scars and treats wrinkles & lines. Natural acids from vitamin C exfoliates the skin, removing dead skin cells at the surface. This allows new fresh skin to form faster, with new glow and a more even complexion. Here are my best tips on good quality vitamin C serums from Korea:
OST Vitamin C20 (concentrated not for sensitive skin)
♥ Wishtrend Pure Vitamin C21.5 Advanced Serum
♥ Klairs Freshly Juiced Vitamin C Serum (suitable for sensitive skin)

Sun protection & sunscreen SPF

Many of our dark spots, age spots and hyperpigmentation start to show after the age of 30. Much due to a lot of sunbathing at a younger age. By taking care of your skin and protecting it from the harmful sun rays, you can reduce the appearance of age spots and dark spots. Sun protection is also preventing more hyperpigmentation from forming once you’re over 30. Don’t forget to apply sunscreen on the top of your hands too. There are really good sunscreens SPF from Korea that are very light and disappears into the skin. No white cast or stickiness at all. You can hardly feel anything on the skin. Some dry completely matte which means a perfect base for makeup and foundation. Here are my tips on good quality Korean sunscreens for the face:
Missha All-around Safe Block Essence Sun Milk SPF50 PA+++
Innisfree Perfect UV Protection Cream Long Lasting SPF50+
♥ Innisfree Eco Safety Perfect Sunblock

Etude House Sunprise Mild Airy Finish SPF 50+ PA

Other skin care products treating hyperpigmentation and dark spots

There’s a whole range of “brightening” and “whitening” skin care products from Korea that help to reduce age spots, dark spots and hyperpigmentation. Products you can use in your daily skin care routine. Niacinamide and Arbutin are two common ingredients treating hyperpigmentation. Here are my best tips on very popular and good quality products from Korea targeting hyperpigmentation:
It’s Skin Power 10 Formula VC Effector (serum)
Secret Key Snow White Cream
♥ Tony Moly Panda’s Dream White Magic Cream (my review here)
♥ The Sulwhasoo Snowise EX Brightening line

Don’t overuse vitamin C serums. Korean skin care products are often very concentrated and effective. Use in moderation.

    1. Hi Mary, I feel you can incorporate products treating hyperpigmentation like any skin care routine. One should try out acid products like vitamin C serums with caution, maybe try 2-3 times a week for a start and only maximum use once a day. But regular brightening face creams and serums mentioned above is for daily use. SPF is for the morning routine only and should be used every single day to prevent dark spots in the first place <3

    1. Hi Luz,
I am not a skin therapist, but I will try to help you.
My best suggestions for brightening Korean skin care is vitamin C serums,
I like to use them in combination with a healing calming snail cream like the Mizon Black Snail Cream.
Use vitamin C with caution as they can sting and cause redness.
Here are some good Korean Vitamin C serums,
      – PURITO Pure Vitamin C Serum (10%)
      – Whishtrend Pure Vitamin C 21,5 Advanced Serum (21,5%)
      – Tiam Signature C Source (30%)
Other ingredients to look for: vitamin C, licorice-root extract, mulberry extract,
      Hope you find something,
      all the best <3

  2. Hi. You write beautifully I am a fan. Can you suggest some cruelty free and vegan options for skin care routine for melasma and hyperpigmentation in dry skin? I am struggling since ages. It’s for my mother. I would like to gift this as a routine to her on her birthday. Please help me. I beg you. Thanks in advance.

    1. Thank you Urvi,
All Korean skin care is cruelty free, but the vegan option is a very good topic.
Have you tried vitamin C serums targeting spots and pigmentation, the purito one is nice and very affordable too.
I like to use Vitamin C with healing snail creams (snail creams are not vegan though).
Maybe the Urang Brightening Blue Oil Serum can be something for you?
I also like Missha Time Revolution essence + Serum for anti-age (check if that is vegan, I think so, it is based on fermented yeast)
Happy Vegan offers 100% vegan and cruelty-free products and is registered with the Vegan Society.
Klairs is all vegan as well I believe.
Also, check out this post on brightening products, You might find something 🙂
